The Concept

In a traditional classroom the teacher presents the material and leads the class through the curriculum throughout the course. The particular style used by the teacher could be lecture, discussion, discovery, teacher centered, student center, of any number of other styles that fit the teacher, students and the material. The students hear, not only the teacher, but, the answers, comments and questions of the other students. Altogether, this makes for a rich, effective learning enviornment that has been effectively employed for hundreds of years.

Over a century ago there was a big change in the classroom with the affival of the chaulkboard. It created quite a stir at the time. It made it possible for the teacher to display relevant material for the whole class to see. The has not changed much over the years. The mechanism has changed. Mimeograph machines, ditto machines, copier machines, overhead projectors and computer projectors still do the same thing. They enable the teacher to present relevant material to the whole class. This did not change the nature of the material to be learned only the means to present the material. It did not change the choices of subjects for the students or increase the learning opportunities for students.

Not even the advent of the Internet and powerful yet inexpensive computers change the content of the courses or the learning mechanisms of the students. Subject were confined to the courses available in the rooms within the school. The Babbage Net School breaks the limitations of the school building by offering courses which may not be available in every school building. We provide the same effective learning enviornment for students with the teacher presenting the relevant material for the whole class to view. We simply do this for students in separate locations. We so this by:
