How We Teach

Our customized tutoring program allows Babbage Net School to cater to each specific, individual student requirement. When a student is enrolled in Babbage Net School SES Program they are given a pre-assessment test to identify their areas of greatest need. Based upon the results of the testing, a customized curriculum is created and installed on a laptop computer provided to the student. The student can then go through each of the lessons at their own pace, and take an assessments at the end of each instructional unit until they attain grade level proficiency. There is no set time limit a student must remain at the computer.

As the student goes through the lessons, our certified NTA tutors will oversee the instruction, evaluate and monitor student progress. Every tutor is trained in the use of the computer-based program, and all our tutors are supervised by an experienced Field Manager or Regional Manager and supported by our headquarters' office staff.

Progress reports are always available to the parents directly on the laptop, and our tutors contact students regularly to ensure they are completing their lessons and answer any questions. Feedback on performance and real time support drives student motivation to achieve.

Customized Tutoring

Often students can become frustrated, unmotivated or disenchanted if they find the work to be too difficult or too easy. Our flexible programming allows us to offer students a chance to work on their level, whatever it may be, and feel successful. We are able to do this with the assistance of software that works in conjunction with the findings of our standardized tests. For example, if the Basic Achievement of Skills Inventory (our standardized, third-party, nationally recognized test by premier test writers, Pearson Vue) indicates that a child is below average on prefixes, suffixes and prepositions and above average on nouns, verbs and sentence structure, it gives us this itemized report. From this report the data is calculated by an additional software component that we use to align the student’s needs with the right activities and lessons. Once all data has been collected for both reading and math, the individualized curriculum is created for each student. This is a surprisingly quick process and can have a turn around of a mere few days.

Individualized Curriculum

The individualized curriculum component is an efficient way to bring students up to grade level or to challenge them to excel further. For example, if a student is in the eighth grade and is struggling with multiplication, he may feel frustrated because his grade-level expectations demand that he divide fractions. This can be potentially overwhelming to the student. He must first solidify his understanding of basic multiplication to really feel comfortable and excel in division of fractions. The individualized component of our programming allows this student lessons and activities for skill building and knowledge acquisition.
